Timethos Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Voices of History Foundation(“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with Timethos, an educational platform on which students hold structured conversations with AI representations of historical figures (the “Service”). By creating an account, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
When you create an account we collect your full name, email address, and a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash by our authentication provider). You also provide a cohort code, which links your account to a class or group administered by an educator.
The Service stores the substance of your use of it: the lessons you open, the conversations you hold with the AI figures (including every message you send and receive), artifacts and written work you produce in the Service, and your progress through courses.
When you use a spoken conversation or avatar feature, audio from your microphone is captured and processed in real time to power the conversation. We store the resulting text transcripts as part of your conversation history. We do not use your voice to create voice clones, voiceprints, or biometric identifiers of any kind.
We record product events (for example: lesson started, conversation completed, feature errors) together with timestamps and internal identifiers, and our hosting providers automatically log technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and request logs for security and reliability purposes.
If you contact us, we keep the correspondence and the information in it.
We do not collect payment information (the Service currently has no payment features), we do not run third-party advertising or advertising trackers, and we do not buy data about you from data brokers.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide the Service: authenticate you, generate the AI figures’ responses, read lessons aloud, render avatars, save your conversation history, and let you resume where you left off.
- To support education: make your activity, transcripts, and progress available to the educator(s) who administer your cohort, as described in Section 4.
- To operate, secure, and improve the Service: debug problems, prevent abuse and fraud, enforce rate limits, measure which features work, and develop new features.
- To communicate with you about your account, including transactional email such as email confirmation.
- To comply with law, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect the rights, safety, and property of users, educators, the public, and ourselves.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
3. AI Processing — Read This
The historical figures on Timethos are simulations generated by artificial intelligence. To make them work, the content of your interactions — your messages, your spoken words (as audio processed in real time and as transcripts), and relevant lesson context — is transmitted to the third-party AI service providers listed in Section 5, which process it to generate responses, speech, and avatar video on our behalf, under their own data-processing terms.
Everything a figure says is machine-generated. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, or anachronistic, and it is not the words or views of any real person, living or dead. Do not share sensitive personal information (such as health, financial, or government-identifier information) in a conversation; the Service does not need it and is not designed to receive it.
4. Educator and School Access
Timethos is a classroom tool. The educator(s) who administer the cohort you join can review your identity within the cohort, your progress, and the full transcripts of your conversations with the figures. Treat conversations on Timethos the way you would treat work you hand in: your instructor can read them.
Where a school or institution arranges access to the Service for its students, we process student information as a service provider to that institution and in accordance with our agreement with it. Educational records we handle on an institution’s behalf are used only to provide the Service, consistent with applicable education-privacy laws (including, in the United States, FERPA). We do not use student records for targeted advertising, and we do not build profiles of students for any purpose other than providing the Service.
5. Service Providers Who Process Your Data
Authentication and database hosting.
Application hosting, delivery, and request logs.
Generates the figures’ responses from your messages and lesson context.
Text-to-speech: turns the figures’ words and lesson readings into audio.
Real-time audio/video infrastructure for spoken conversations and avatar sessions.
Renders animated avatar video for figures during avatar-enabled sessions.
Each provider processes data only to provide its service to us. This is the complete list as of the effective date above; if it changes materially we will update this Policy. No data brokers, no ad networks.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use strictly necessary cookies — primarily HTTP-only authentication cookies that keep you signed in — and browser storage needed for the Service to function. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your account information and learning content while your account is active, because your conversation history is part of the product and, in a classroom deployment, part of the educational record your educator relies on. Server and security logs are retained for shorter operational periods.
You (or, for institutional deployments, your institution) may request deletion of your account and associated personal information, or a copy of it, by emailing founders@vohfoundation.com. We will act on verified requests within 30 days, subject to any legal obligation to retain specific records and to our agreement with your institution, and we may retain residual copies in backups for a limited period thereafter.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, role-based access controls, and row-level security on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; you are responsible for keeping your password confidential.
9. Children and Age Requirements
The Service is intended for students aged 13 and older, or younger students only where a school or institution has arranged access and provided or obtained any consent required by applicable law (including COPPA in the United States). Outside of such institutional arrangements, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us at founders@vohfoundation.com and we will delete it.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because we do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing to opt out of under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we honor the rights those laws provide. To exercise any right, email founders@vohfoundation.com; we will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If your account exists through a school, some requests may need to be routed through the school as the controller of its educational records.
11. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States and information is processed on servers that may be located in the United States or other countries. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those of your home jurisdiction, and we take steps designed to ensure it remains protected as described in this Policy.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above, and for material changes we will provide additional notice in the Service (which may include requiring you to re-accept before continuing). Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
